Our Story
The historic Chimes Building at Tod’s Point in Old Greenwich has been a storied home to community sailing programs for generations of Greenwich residents. In earlier times it has operated under the stewardship of The Young Mariners, the Parks and Recreation Department, the Old Greenwich Yacht Club, Greenwich Community Sailing, and today by the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Tod’s Point Sailing School.
In the wake of the abrupt departure of Greenwich Community Sailing, Volunteers John Kantor and Bill King collaborated to organize Tod’s Point Sailing School in December 2021 to ensure that a sailing program would be operational for the 2022 Summer season. The task was to create a robust instructional and boat rental program from the ground up entailing endless administrative and tactical activities and to be ready to open on schedule on Memorial Day weekend.
The brand-new sailing fleet, kayaks, paddleboards, chase safety boats, PFD’s, communication equipment and instructional materials were procured and delivered on time with the help of several volunteers. Administratively, website development, IT infrastructure, financial systems and insurance for the program were put in place. A team of thirty instructors, beach crew and office staff were interviewed and hired for the season. Despite many bumps in the road, Tod’s Point Sailing School opened on schedule
As we approach the end of the 2024 Season on Labor Day, we wish to thank the Greenwich community for your ongoing support look forward to your continued support. While operating expenses are highest during the operating season, there are significant recurring costs throughout the much longer off-season. Your financial support is needed and deeply appreciated.
